The author, who is the granddaughter of General George S. George Evans became one of the first members of the Sonora City Council and the second Tuolumne County Clerk. He was also an officer of the Second Calvary, California Volunteers. George Evans was elected mayor of Stockton in 1870. This book serves as both a genealogy of the Evans family while also providing an insight into California’s military and political history.
