First published by the Tuolumne County Historical Society in 1985.  The author Milo Bird grew up in the mining town now under the waters of the New Melones Reservoir.  He was born in 1895 and in his youth became a self-styled Tom Sawyer.  He recalls miner’s working conditions, residents, ghosts, and how young boys amused themselves in an isolated mining town.  He worked in the nearby Carson Hill mine and later attended Stanford University.  His writing style brings to life his recollections of the early part of the 20th century.  Paperback.  Reprint 2008.  Tuolumne County Historical Society, Sonora, California.  284 pgs.  ISBN 0965260887
