The latest book published by the Tuolumne County Historical Society is titled TrainFire and is a collection of paintings by local artist, Patrick Michael Karnahan. Patrick was the featured artist in the Historical Society’s previous book, Glory of the Sierra, which contains 21 of his Sierra Railroad paintings.
This book has many more of Patrick’s western railroad paintings along with a selection of his landscape works. But what makes this volume unique are the 12 forest fire paintings depicting a variety of firefighting aircraft in action. The original of one of the paintings, commentating the Rim Fire, is hanging in the US Forest Service Office in Washington, DC.
TrainFire is an 8-1/2 x 11 inch, landscape format, colorful coffee table volume that contains 86 full page reproductions of this prolific artist’s works in oil. This book provides an interesting look at fighting forest fires, is a delight for railroad fans and a treat for anyone who appreciates fine paintings.
