A Different View of Yosemite National Park.  Local resident David Harden will present a different view of Yosemite National Park in a presentation at the March 14 meeting of the Tuolumne County Historical Society.

The meeting is set for 7pm in the Community Room at the Tuolumne County Library.  Any interested members of the community are invited to attend.

Harden will share photos and stories chronicling more than 40 years of wandering and climbing in the park.  His views include many of seldom-seen areas outside the world-renowned Yosemite Valley.  These are not the usual views experienced by most traveling the roadways in the park.

"Living in Tuolumne County, we are incredibly fortunate to have in our own backyard the world wonders of Yosemite," Harden said.

In his talk Harden will discuss the history of climbing exploration from John Muir's ascent of Cathedral Peak to the amazing feats of today's young athletes on the vertical walls.

More Sierra Railway Stories

Dave Connery, featured speaker at the recent Lamplight dinner, will regale society members with more stories about the Sierra Railway and the Angels Branch at the Thursday, June 13, society meeting.

At the Lamplight dinner, Connery indicated additional stories about the railroad would be included in a future edi-tion of the Chispa. He will relate some of those stories at the June meeting. '

Connery has served as a docent at Railtown 1897 in Jamestown for the past 21 years. He is a railroad historian who finds the Angels Branch one of the most intriguing he has encountered. In its day the short trip from Jamestown to Angels Camp was considered one of the most scenic railroad rides in the nation.
